BERC Provides Sacramento County Restaurants and Food Facilities with the Resources to be Successful!

The California Retail Food Code requires that retail food facilities which handle unpackaged food must employ at least one person who is certified in food safety.
Certification in food safety simply means that you or at least one of your employees will be required to have a basic knowledge as to the causes of food borne illness and its prevention, pass an approved examination, and possess a valid certificate in food safety. [BERC uses only certifications which are accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-Conference for Food Protection (CFP)]

BERC provides a 7 hour class and administering the certification examination. The cost is:

  • $160.00 -- Textbook, class, and examination
  • $100.00 -- Class, and examination (no textbook)
  • $60.00 -- Examination only, without the class or textbook
  • $80.00 -- Textbook only

Classes are conducted from 8am - 4pm at BERC. Check the Events page for the latest schedule
