Sustainable Business of the Year Awards Expo - Sept 18, 2008 (Sacramento Sustainable Business Program)
 
Each year, the accomplishments of all certified Sacramento Sustainable Businesses are reviewed, and awards are given to the top environmentally conscious businesses whose practices demonstrate an outstanding commitment to enhancing sustainability.

The event includes a Sustainability EXPO with representatives from state and local agencies, as well as exhibitors from environmental and pollution prevention firms.

The awards will be hosted By KCRA 3 News Anchor Pamela Wu. A University of California, Davis alumnus, Pamela received the Unity Award for her work as the host of the program “KCRA 3 Common Ground”.

Keynote Speaker Leonard E. Robinson is the Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). He has over thirty (30) years experience in the environmental management field.

The event begins at 8:00 am with a breakfast mixer in the exhibitor area, the awards ceremony from 9:00 am - 10:30 am, and regulatory update workshops from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm.

After the awards, there will be three regulatory update workshops.

* Air Quality - Rules and permit requirments for stationary internal combustion engines

* Air Quality - Rules and permit requirments for portable internal combustion engines.

* Solid Waste - Sacramento Regional Solid Waste Authority's (SWA) new Business Recycling Ordinance and the requirements for your business.

* Stormwater Pollution Prevention - Hosting Compliant Fundraiser Carwashes

* AB 32 Greenhouse Gas Emissions - An update on California's plan to reduce climate change by controlling emissions. Presented by the California Air Resources Board

Sacramento Region Clean Energy Showcase Venture Expo 2008 (Sacramento Sustainable Business Program)
 
The Sacramento Region is a “hub” for clean energy technology. The region boasts
nearly 100 clean technology companies providing solar, wind, biofuel, energyefficient
technology and much more. The Sacramento Region has some of the best
educational institutes that provide a viable workforce. Our area is poised to meet the
growing demand for clean energy and technology. More importantly, our clean
technology companies will contribute to sustained economic growth for our region
and beyond.



SARTA’s CleanStart program provides resources that afford success and growth for
Sacramento Region Clean Energy Technology (CET) companies. Join us (inventors,
incubators, investors, industry experts, government, university, nonprofit and real
estate developers) as we explore the region’s key role in this growing trend — and
how we all can benefit. The key objectives for this conference include: providing a
“link” to experts with information in the key areas of running a successful green
business; showcasing the regional technical cluster of excellence in clean technology;

Food Safety Certification Class & Exam – October 7, 2008 (Food Services Program)
  The California Retail Food Code requires that retail food facilities which handle unpackaged food must employ at least one person who is certified in food safety. Certification in food safety requires passing a state approved examination, demonstrating knowledge of the causes of food borne illness and mandatory practices for prevention. Upon passing the examination, a certificate will be issued, valid for 60 months.

BERC will conduct a 7 hour Food Safety Manager class and administer the certification examination which meets the requirements of the California Health and Safety Code.
